On March 22, 2002 Genmar acquired the operating assets of Champion®
boats as the successful bidder in a process approved by the Bankruptcy
Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The assets, which
were acquired to manufacture and sell bass boats and bay boats
from 18 to 24 feet, will be moved from Mountain Home, Ark. to
become part of the Genmar bass boat group in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Genmar noted the relocation process would begin immediately and
intends to begin production within the next 30 days to fill open
orders for the 2002 model year. Production for the 2003 model
year will begin in June.
For more than 27 years, Champion®
has been a recognized leader in building technologically advanced
fishing boats. Famous for their smooth, solid ride, Champion boats
are handcrafted for superior performance. The current product
line includes more than a dozen fishing and recreational models
ranging from 18 to 24 feet in length. From saltwater bay and walleye
rigs to bass boat and fish 'n ski models, Champion’s craftsmanship
is unsurpassed.
Warranty
Although it is unusual for a purchasing company to honor the warranty
claims of a bankrupt company Genmar plans to reimburse certain
warranty expenses to Champion dealers and customers for boats
built in the 2000, 2001 or 2002 model year. This limited warranty
coverage is valid for three years from the original date of purchase,
for the first retail purchaser of the boat. Year 2000 Champion
and Back Country boats will be covered for structural repairs
while 2001 and 2002 boats will be covered for structural and selected
component repairs. The limited warranty details will be available
through authorized Champion dealers.
